Imperfection

People are always works in progress, and parenting is no different. The idea that we must be perfect parents and never make mistakes leads to anxiety, which leads to attempting to control things that can’t be controlled, like our kids’ behavior and preferences for how they spend their time.

It is ok to be imperfect, it is ok to make mistakes, and perhaps most of all, it is ok to let go. The best thing we can do for our kids is be calm, present, and available, and show them how to repair and learn from our mistakes.
